Leg of Beast Supper @ Incanto, aka Tastes Like Offal

Wahoo, it’s Chinese New Year! Year of the Snake. Or is it the serpent? Are they the same year? Are they the same species? WTF. No matter, it’s the Lunar New Year, which means plenty of excuses for cramming my mouth with things of the delicately fried, steamed and, most importantly, porky variety. In other words, it’s pretty much Christmas come early. Like, a really awesome piggy Christmas with chives and cilantro and hot chili oil. Ho, my friends. In honor of what is inarguably one of the foodiest celebrations of the year, I thought now might be the perfect … Read More

Recipe: Bleu cheese & apricot pastry bites — and a few last thanks…

Holy crap, it’s almost 2013. This year, more than any other in recent memory, I’ve taken little moments here and there to survey everything Chris and I have been able to pack into our compact Bay Area life, and darned if I don’t feel like a pretty lucky lady. It’s super easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of seemingly important, demanding, utterly crucial activities, isn’t it? Like, “ohmygod, I have to go to World Market right this minute to buy those 75% off Easter cheese puffs,” or  “if I don’t put in three 12-hour days this week, this stuff is … Read More

Merry Christmas & Happy Fooding!

(Update: Now posting 1 day late due to interruption by even more food. Ah, the life of a professional glutton…) Happy Christmas, blog buddies! As I am staring down a breakfast of tasty Christmas Eve leftovers, I will keep this swift but certainly wanted to express my extreme joy and gratitude for all the love and support The Pig & Quill has received from family and friends this year. It’s been an incredibly rewarding challenge bringing a little slice of our foodie adventures to the world, so big thanks to my loving family, my good-sport friends and my new little … Read More

Season’s greetings from The Pig & Quill!

Who’s ready for another post about Ohio! I think I heard about three of you say “Maybe,” so I’ma roll with it. This one will be short. With the Thanksgiving holiday officially behind us — and having already heard my favorite song of the season not once but thrice, it’s very nearly fair game to declare that Christmas is upon us. Oy. Where the frick did 2012 go? But as some would say, it’s here, spread the cheer (get used to it?). So in celebration of things, let me be the very first to wish you a Merry Christmas via the … Read More

Braised Pork Belly Tacos (my first Pigsgiving!)

First off, Happy Birthday to my Father-in-Law, John! I’m spoiled by having totally normal and highly lovable in-laws. They’re the best, and super supportive in everything we do. Love them. Second: Turkey. Schmurkey. That’s right, I said it. Every year, knowing that most everyone has a turkey dinner in their plans for Thanksgiving, my mom’s side of the family gets together for a decidedly Turkey-less holiday lunch. We’ve done a Chinese potluck with black bean spareribs and sticky rice. We’ve done an Italian feast with lasagne, piccata and fluffy desserts. We’ve even done an entirely Trader Joe’s Thanksgiving where we … Read More
