Super Bowl Roundup: 20 Tasty Eats for the Big Game // the pig & quill

Do you remember your first Super Bowl? I do. My mom and I were living in an apartment off the river, in a little one-bedroom over the manager’s office. One of my favorite pastimes was fastening a paperclip to a string, knotting it clumsily around the end of a stick and dangling it over the balcony. The Big Apple Eats n’ Deets: Part 2

My MacBook just attacked me. As in, it just skinned the shkit out of the back of my knuckle. And no, I didn’t just skin my knuckle on the MacBook. The MacBook skinned me. Also, I’m fairly certain I cracked a rib while paddling a group raft on the Rogue River this past weekend. Or coughing up what’s left of this STUPID CHEST COLD that won’t quit. Something about the juxtaposition of tender and juicy against crisp, nutty, brown. It’s pork simmered in pork fried in pork. That’s like a Hello Kitty pen-pencil wrapped in a Lisa Frank folder wrapped in a Trapper Keeper, ya dig? It just doesn’t get better. But wait. Maybe it does get better. Maybe the Trapper Keeper is actually a Caboodle. Full of scrunchies and adjustable neon … Read More

Braised Pork Belly Tacos (my first Pigsgiving!)

First off, Happy Birthday to my Father-in-Law, John! I’m spoiled by having totally normal and highly lovable in-laws. They’re the best, and super supportive in everything we do. Love them. Second: Turkey. Schmurkey. That’s right, I said it. Every year, knowing that most everyone has a turkey dinner in their plans for Thanksgiving, my mom’s side of the family gets together for a decidedly Turkey-less holiday lunch. We’ve done a Chinese potluck with black bean spareribs and sticky rice. We’ve done an Italian feast with lasagne, piccata and fluffy desserts. We’ve even done an entirely Trader Joe’s Thanksgiving where we … Read More
