In the Pigpen No. 3: Thirty Days of Thanks (off to a slow start…)

A little different Pig Pen this round since I’m fresh off my Momma Weekend, and I’m feeling pretty good. So good, in fact, that I think I’ll join the 30 Days of Thanks bandwagon and give a quick rundown of what I’m especially appreciative of right up through this, the 14th day of November. I do this with two caveats:

  1. I’m hungry. And therefore distracted. Quality is questionable.
  2. I don’t promise that I’ll ever get to days 15 through 30.

Without further ado.

30 Days of Thanks (Part 1 of…?)

I am thankful for:

  • November 1: My hubs. He’s top of mind at the moment as he just whipped up the most delectable egg salad. It goes without saying that I am, to quote one of the greatest most popular writers of this generation, completely and irrevocably in love with him, and he deserves every ounce of that love and then some more.
  • November 2: Soy-braised eggs. I love this recipe from Appetite for China. Soft-cooked, they’re my favorite ramen topping. Ugh, I’m fiending.
  • November 3: Our wee little house. It’s 700 feet of cozy and completely therapeutic in its thwarting of (possibly genetic) hoarding.
  • November 4: My fam. (Bear in mind this is in no particular order.) I genuinely look forward to every call, email, text, Facebook “convo” and visit with my family, in-laws included. They are a smart, witty, generous and completely genuine bunch. Yours might be a close second, but my kinfolk are pure Gold.
  • November 5: You, my readers. Really, there are what, a couple dozen of you, maybe? I truly love each and every one of you. The idea that I’m writing to something (someones) more tangible than the cold blackness of space is endlessly comforting.
  • November 6: The dark chocolate + sea salt trend.
  • November 7: Our local library. I feel inspired every time I set foot through the door. Bonus: they waive hold fees for Young Adult titles so I can remain a high-rollin’ tween lit junkie.
  • November 8: Pickles! Ms. Shell, if you are reading this, I adore the homemade habanero variety and would gladly take a jar or three as an early Christmas gift, no bow required.
  • November 9: My vintage Wedgewood stove. It heats up fast, cooks evenly, cleans up easily and is cute, to boot.
  • November 10: Electricity.
  • November 11: Pandora. Somehow I have still yet to sync my iTunes library with my iPhone. I know, I know. I credit all my best runs to The Cataracs station and a super rad pair of…
  • November 12: …BeatsAudio earbuds.
  • November 13: My career. How I came to my current position is pure serendipity and a stroke of good fortune following what felt like a string of challenges. It’s fast-paced. It’s tumultuous. Some days it’s downright tiring. It’s also rewarding and inspiring and stupidly fun.
  • November 14: Vaycaycay! Which is what I’m off to later today. It’s been more than two years since I’ve visited my girlfriends in the great state of Ohio, and we’ve got lots of catching up (read: noshing) to do. There’ll be brunching and bargain shopping — and there’s even a brand new little baby to kiss. In short, it’s chick paradise and I CANNOT WAIT.

Needless to say, I am lucky in love and in life and surrounded by so much good it should hurt. (Thankfully, it doesn’t. It feels pretty darn good.)
Kinda puts things into perspective, in fact…

Until next time, my friends…O-H!

OH, the places you'll go...and baked stuffed apples
